The major objective of this lecture is to understand why an improvement of the effectiveness and efficiency of services within the healthcare sector can only be induced by a systematic approach that includes continuous monitoring, the evaluation of structures, processes and results as well as the implementation of evolving consequences (quality management). In this course historical backgrounds, concepts, models and implementation examples of quality management within the healthcare sector will be discussed. The focus is laid on the comprehension of basic elements and principles.
